New record: according to the 2024 monitoring report just published by the Swiss Plastic Recyclers Association (VSPR), a record volume of 11,548 tons of mixed plastic waste was collected in Switzerland in 2024. We are proud to announce that our Bring Plastic Back system contributed no less than 78% of this record collection volume, namely 9090 tons of household plastic.
Canton Bern catches up
The report also shows that more and more municipalities are opting for professional plastic recycling: 971 municipalities already use a VSPR-certified collection system. 616 municipalities - or 63% of collection municipalities - rely on Bring Plastic Back. The leading canton in terms of collection volume is still Zurich with 1965 tons. However, our offensive in the canton of Bern enabled us to make up a lot of ground in the annual statistics. While we were still lagging behind in 2022 with 645 tons collected per year, the canton of Bern overtook the canton of Aargau in 2024 with 1780 tons and is now only less than 200 tons behind the canton of Zurich.
More transparency
The monitoring report also shows a strong recycling rate: A total of 6,457 tons were recycled, bringing the industrial recycling rate to 55.2 % and meeting the 2025 target one year early.
Extended traceability: Since 2024, sorting residues must be returned from the EU and recycled for energy recovery in Switzerland. This ensures even greater transparency and control.
